I’m sitting here on February 20th thinking, where did the first 12th of the year go?? What did I accomplish? How is my 19 for 2019 list going? I don’t want the year to disappear on me without any of the changes I was hoping for, so I think a frequent look behind and ahead of me, will be worthwhile.
First thing I want to do is revamp my list, because I’m realizing that the list as written has too many things that I can’t really cross off until Dec. 31st, if then! There are a lot of behavioral changes I’m hoping for, which is great and all, but I really want to cross some more tangible things off, so I’ll feel more encouraged about tackling the more nebulous things on the list.
I already crossed off two items.
1) Replace or repair dresser. Between Dave and I we got that dresser fixed! I’m super chuffed about that. 5) give up sugar for 1 month. I was so ready to give up desserts after binging on them in Mexico plus when we got home after Christmas. It was relatively painless and I’m still not back to eating sugary things nearly as much as I was in the habit of doing. I hope to keep it that way. I didn’t give up carbs, wine, etc., just desserts/baked goods like muffins. I felt a lot better and got back to my pre-Mexico weight, yay!
Amongst the other things on the list I’m doing pretty well on several of the ones that concern on-going behaviour change.
3) write a weekly blog post. I’m pretty close to that schedule, so I’m happy! 7) knit two sweaters. I’ve finished one (which was started in 2018, so it doesn’t really count), and I have the yarn to do two more, one of which is on the needles. Not worried about this one, barring an injury that prevents me from knitting.
8: Design a knitted piece. I’m in the middle of doing that, and it shouldn’t take me more than another month to finish. It’s only a vest.
9) Bring one bag or box to Renaissance (like Goodwill or the Salvation Army) every month. I’m on track since we took one bag in January and I have another ready to go this week.
10) Reduce waste, eat leftovers, etc. I’m being very conscious of this, but there is still food going to waste sometimes, but not as much. I also added cosmetics and hair products to this. I’m using things up before I buy any more, even if they aren’t my favourite products. Tough titty!! You bought’em, you use’em! I’m already seeing a bit more space on my bathroom shelf.
11) Use the one-minute rule. This is actually becoming a habit, I’m happy to say. I find myself adding minutes to that first minute, which means my kitchen is cleaner more of the time and there isn’t quite the same amount of clutter building up.
12)Remember: Outer order creates Inner Calm. This one is an offshoot of #11 and it really helps to think about it.
16) Act Independently. This is something that I’m keeping in the back of my mind, but it’s hard to say whether it’s really happening. Will report back in a few months.
18) Connect with friends regularly. I think this is happening, but it’s definitely something that needs to be examined at least weekly.
The other things on the list I’m having less success with, so I may change them at some point. 15) “Add a gym class or visit to regimen”, hasn’t happened. Sigh…
Also, vlogging has been a struggle so far this year. I put out one episode of The Guilty Knitter on Dec. 31st, so I count that as my first one of 2019 (my list, my rules!) and just published my second one yesterday. I was happy to get it out, but I’d really like to make the episodes more interesting as time goes on, which is why I haven’t done it more often. Have to think of how I want it to look, be, include, etc…. or just keep going the way it is. Can’t decide! It does take a lot of time and energy to make something into a great product…
So that’s my list update. On the whole I’m pretty happy with how it’s going but I might replace a couple of nebulous items with more concrete ones. It might be a more realistic approach.
I’m heading out on tour with the OSM (and with my husband, Dave, who is also playing!) from March 7th-28th , so there will be a gap there in my blogging/vlogging output. We’ll be touring around Germany mostly, but also hitting Paris, Vienna and Brussels. We’ll be in Berlin at the end and our daughter, Erica will meet us there for a visit. That’ll be the highlight for me!
How are your New Year’s Resolutions coming along? Did you make a similar list? Do you hate resolutions of any kind? Let me know in the comments, I’m very curious!
