It’s been ages since I’ve posted on this blog so I thought I’d let you know what’s happening. I am one third of the way through a process known as The Artist’s Way (book by Julie Cameron), which I mentioned in my last post. I’m finding myself unable to do a lot of writing aside from the weekly tasks and homework assigned by the book. It’s not just a lack of time, but a lack of will and inspiration. The book feels a lot like therapy to me, and it’s taking a lot of emotional energy and most of my brain power just to absorb all the concepts and ask myself some of the tough questions it poses. I am doing a lot of daily journal writing (long-hand, people!), and maybe that’s all I can handle for the moment.
What I’m finding most surprising about this process is the way it’s helping me on the musical end of my creativity, where I hadn’t consciously realized I needed unblocking. That’s where I’m finding myself freed up and feeling most inspired. I’m enjoying my practicing more than I have in years and enjoying challenging myself; learning to play alto trombone, practicing solos, and just generally going a little deeper. This has been a great pleasure for me and has gotten me excited about branching out and possibly revisiting the piano or taking singing lessons. I’m also keen to get back to playing some chamber music.
This brings me to the point of this post. I’ve really enjoyed the Tranquil Garden Blog and I hope to keep posting from time to time, but I’m thinking of starting a different type of blog, possibly music or simply arts-related. I can feel my interest in gardening waning a bit, which is one reason for this shift. I don’t want to feel compelled to put my energy into an area I’m losing interest in just because I have a blog about it. That certainly won’t work in the long run. I’m sure that I will always enjoy my garden and its beauty and will work in it sporadically every season while we live here, but I really want to pursue other interests and since winter is coming on, this seems like a good time to mentally let it go.
Any time you want to check out the Tranquil Garden, its photos and old posts will still be here, at least for the foreseeable future. I’m not closing it down, but I’m putting it on hold (mostly) for now. Whether I post something on this blog or start another one, I’ll send out emails the way I often do, and I’ll also post a link on here to any new blog I decide to start. That idea is still germinating, so it might be awhile.
Thank you for reading, my Tranquil Garden enthusiasts! I have appreciated the chance to share my love of the beautiful earth with you.
Here’s the fabulous Sorcerer’s Apprentice, by Dukas, in honour of Hallowe’en. We’re playing it this week at the OSM and recording it for an upcoming CD.
