Spring into Summer

If it’s spring then it must be time to post on my gardening/knitting blog.  I

Cardinals!!

recently renewed my Blue Host account, which means I’m committed to this website for the next three years.  I haven’t been posting enough to really make the cost worth it, but I don’t want to lose all of the work I’ve done on this site for so many years.  Also, I’d be losing The Lee-Martin Blog Solution site and that affects the whole family, who periodically write very interesting posts on that site.  I encourage you to check them out.

So, the calendar says it’s spring and I’m actually starting to believe it might be coming.  The weather has been above zero for a while and looks like that will continue, so the rules of thermo-dynamics suggest that the snow will continue to melt.  Yay!  What’s strange is that the departure of snow creates vaguely mixed feelings in me.  On the whole I revel in the warmer temperatures and can’t wait to see the shoots start to come up in earnest.  However, there is a slight regret to see the last of the snow and I’m not sure I’ve ever allowed myself to recognize that feeling before.  As a Canadian, I identify so much with winter that it becomes my default season.  The snow is a constant for well over six months of the year, and that has an affect on us…me.  I don’t know whether anyone else relates to this.  The departure of the snow signals a whole different life.  It means more responsibilities outdoors; maintenance on the house, work in the garden and cleaning up the mess the snow leaves behind.  All the stuff that at first is kind of fun and joyful but in the end becomes a slog when the weather is hot and you just can’t be arsed to mow the lawn one more time.  Funny, right?  This is why having seasons is awesome.  It means you don’t have to do the same kind of chore all year round.  Variety is the spice of life, amirite?

On the knitting front, I’ve got way too many projects on the needles, so everything is progressing more slowly than I’d like.  I was obsessed with my “A Girl’s Best Friend” Shawl by Isabell Kraemer and was neglecting the sweater I started for Dave just after Christmas.  I decided to get back to the sweater because his birthday is coming up and with luck I could get it finished by then and, bonus,  I could have an FO (Finished Object) to talk about on a podcast sometime soon.  It was a wrench because I was enjoying the shawl immensely.  However, I also really love the sweater, so it’s all good.  I’m also making a pair of socks for Allison, Travis’s girlfriend.  I was aiming for her birthday but it’s next Wednesday.  Um….  Not going to make it.  I just passed the toe on the second sock, so with some serious commitment I could make it by next week sometime.  I’m not working this week so I have way more time, I guess…

About that… tax season is coming up so what I really need to do is start adding receipts so I can get all that done by the end of next week.  Sigh…

For those of you who have been following my podcast, The Guilty Knitter, I am planning to announce a KAL (knit-along) on my next episode.  It’ll be called the “Spring into Summer” KAL, where everyone who wants to join in is encouraged to knit something in a summer yarn (light fingering, lace, but especially linen and cotton!).  It can be anything! A bag, a sweater, a top, a shawl, n’importe quoi!

In case you missed it, here’s a link to my latest Guilty Knitter episode:

Happy Spring and happy knitting!!
